You don’t have to wait until you’re successful to start building your professional network.
Start while you’re young.
Here are 7 things you can do:
1. Start with people around you. Classmates, lecturers, colleagues, alumni, and professionals can all become part of your network.
2. Attend events. Go to workshops, conferences, career fairs, seminars, and industry events.
3. Learn to introduce yourself. Be able to clearly explain who you are, what you do, and where you’re heading.
4. Build a professional online presence. Share your projects, skills, lessons, and progress.
5. Ask better questions. Instead of asking someone for a job immediately, ask about their experience, industry, and advice.
6. Stay in touch. A relationship becomes stronger when you follow up and remain connected.
7. Become valuable. Develop skills, do good work, communicate well, and keep your promises.
Remember:
Networking isn’t collecting phone numbers or social media followers.
It’s building genuine relationships with people who know you, trust you, and respect your work.
Start with 10 meaningful connections.
You have more time than you think.
Build your network before you desperately need it.
