Someone else’s progress can make you question your own.
They graduated before you.
They got the job you wanted. They started a business. They bought a car.
They have a bigger audience.
They seem to be moving faster.
But before you conclude that you’re behind, remember these 7 things:
1. Compare yourself with your past self. Are you better than you were last year?
2. You don’t see the whole story. You see someone’s results, not everything it took to get there.
3. Learn instead of feeling defeated. Ask what you can learn from their success.
4. Respect your timeline. People don’t reach milestones at the same age.
5. Control what you consume. If certain accounts constantly make you feel inadequate, take a break.
6. Set your own goals. You need your own definition of progress.
7. Recognize your growth. Don’t ignore the things you can do today that you couldn’t do before.
Your life is not a race against everyone around you.
The better question isn’t:
“Why am I not where they are?”
Ask:
“What can I do today to become better than I was yesterday?”
Keep learning.
Keep building.
Keep moving.
